I was excited that Yankee Candle had a great sale on their large jar candles and I took advantage of it to get more Christmas gifts than I usually can afford. Everyone in my family loves Yankee Candles! Normally, my jar candles come very well packaged, even when I've bought more than six of them. The cartons are sturdy, with the top and bottom taped together, and even if the box is a little big, the carton protects the candles from bumping into each other and/or rough handling of the box. I've never had an issue with an order before, and I felt it was because they took care to package the product so well. But in this order, one of the candles - Clean Cotton, which was a gift for my daughter for Christmas -- arrived broken. The box was FAR too big for the order, the carton top and bottom were NOT taped together, and there wasn't nearly enough padding around the carton, so the carton could slide around easily inside the box. The carton for 6 candles is about 16x11 inches on the outside, but the box was 24x14 inches, and the packing paper was only around the carton on three sides. The corner containing the broken candle was at the unprotected end, and the bottom of the carton was bent down on that corner, leaving a larger gap between the top and bottom. Also, I ordered two wick trimmers, and they were loose in the bottom of the box underneath the packing, not wrapped in paper or anything. Between the box size, the carton being unsecured, the lack of adequate packing paper on all sides and the loose wick trimmers I can't be surprised that one of the candles is broken, even though it's the first time it's ever happened with one of my orders. There was a packing slip inside the box, but nothing on it that told me how to notify the company about the issue. It seem to me if they really wanted to served customers well, their contact info - email, website and phone number - would be easy to find on something inside the box! I've been trying to get online, but wouldn't you know it -- there's been problems with the internet connection here so I still haven't been able to connect long enough to found out how I can contact them for a refund on the one broken candle. And it's Christmas, so I don't have that kind of time to spend on something stressful that won't take care of my new problem, which is finding something else for my daughter for Christmas! I can deal with contacting Yankee Candle after Christmas when I have more mental bandwidth to figure it out. I still love the scents they offer, so I'll shop with Yankee Candle again, but maybe order less next time. I can't afford to rely heavily on one company for Christmas gifts when they haven't come through for me.
