I had received from a gentleman who was over 85 years old a fairly large box of different kits- pen kits and kits for spoons and measuring cups etc. None of the kits I received had the bushings that would go with the kits. On 7/28 I ordered 7 sets of bushings to go with the kits. I have ordered thousands of dollars of items from Penn State industires before but had never ordered a bushing for the designer pen kits. What I didn't know is that you have multiple different types of designer pen kits. The one I happened to order was not the correct one. A I said- I had never ordered before and I didn't know that I was supposed to order the PKMONT-NT vs. the PPMONT. I turned the pen kit accordint to the directions, and being the wrong middle bushing, obviously the clip end of the middle part of the pen was not correct, and I therefore had a very proud center. I thought I possibly made a mistake and used the wrong side of cernter bushing. The gentleman who gave me the kits gave me two different pen blanks, and ask if I would make him two pens out of tll the stuff he gave me. Since the clip end was ruined I have a Woodcraft close to me, so I went there to see if by chance they had the same color and type of blank. Lucky for me they did. Since the tip of the pen was OK, I just had to re-do the clip end. I lined up the pen using what was I thought the right part of the bushing and turned to that again. Again it was wrong, because the bushing was wrong. So I got my caliper and measured what the instruction said it was suppoed to be, and saw that obviously I had the wrong bushing. It was after hours so I called into the office the next morning, and was routed to the guy who dealt with that sort of thing. It was only then that I was told that there was multiple kits with the same "Designer Pen" name, but only then did I find out that I hade inadvertantly ordered the wrong kit. I realized that the mistake was mine, but felt that the guy I was talking to was very down-grading, and really made me feel like an ass that I didn't know these things. After a few minutes of him berating me I told him to just let me talk to the sales person so I could order the right kit. When the sales person got on the phone, I explained what had happened, and she also made me feel like a complete ass. I had had it up to here (pointing to the top of my head) and basically hung up on her, and had not ordered the bushing set. I used my calipers to turn the portion the way it was supposed to be, and it fits nicely. I was VERY disappointed in the way I was treated. I ran my own business for 47 years, that I dealt with a product that I dispensed that didn't work out right etc. The correct response to anyone, and especially to someone who had been a good client for years would be not to downgrade them, even if it was ultimately their fault. (In my business, as a veterinarian, 99% of the time it was because the product was being used by the client). The correct response should've been, "Hey, sorry that happened, we'll send out another bushing- no charge." But that doesn't look like that's the way your business model says to do things. Look up my record and see the thousands of dollars I stuff I have purchased from you. In a small handfull of times, there has been part of apen kit missing etc. and you replaced only that part of the kit. Which is fine, but I'm guessing that averaged one time every year or two. If my business does't mean that much to you, let me know. There are other places to go. Clarence Sitzman

I wish you had better quality slimline pen kits. Really good kits are only available in the larger pens but most people want slimline pens. Your shipping prices are pretty high considering most similar pens can be purchased from Amazon with free shipping.

I bought a few different items since I’m fairly new at pen making and I’m trying different types of kits and blanks for the experience and also to see which pen type is best for me to promote. I bought a couple of the dried flowers against a black background with the tube in place because I’m considering doing some of my own casting so this gave me the opportunity to see the product and turn it such that I could make the decision to do some castings of my own. I had a small problem with the castings after I turned it and I called to find out what could be the problem and they solved that issue for me so it was a good experience knowing what I did wrong to create the issue that I had and even though it was my fault they were going to replace the item but since it was my mistake I refused their kind offer to replace the item. I want to learn the craft not make mistakes and try to get free replacements for not taking the initiative to learn correct procedures to better learn the do’s and donts of the industry

I recieved a catalog and thats the reason for ordering something. I have been turning mostly bowls on my lathe and didnt give much thought to the variety of things I could be making along with my bowls. I will definitely order more from here. I was however a little disappointed with paying for standard shipping and knowing that the only way to get the items faster is by paying more money. The money I spent on shipping could have went towards more purchases from your catalog but overall, I am very pleased with Penn State Industries.

I live in Canada. For many years I used to receive catalogues with my orders, the last several I have not and I needed a current printing to allow people to select a pen of their choosing. For the last order I emailed a special request to include a catalogue or refund my visa purchase and remove me from your Email address list. WELL no catalogue with my order! Previously when I tried to email order one I was told because I was Canadain you would not mail me one (even when I paid the shipping costs for my order). Are you brain dead or are you just arrogant towards Canadains like your president? Tell me what am I supposed to do to have a repectful buisness relationship?

I put in my address and it told me it couldn’t be found. It suggested another address that was exactly the same except the zip plus four was added. I thought that was odd and maybe even dumb.

The experience of ordering is very easy on the Penn State web site. All of the products are well designed. I do however, wish shipping was quicker and less expensive for a small amount of Items. For instance: I ordered the gold letter opener as a gift for my Dr’s office. I forgot to order the bushings. I have many bushings but none would fit. Otherwise I am very happy with Penn State and the products offered and I will continue to order from Penn State.

I’ve used the dyed spalted tamarind before, and it looks amazing. It’s my first time using the double-dyed maple burl but I’m looking forward to it. The biggest problem is that they’re expensive and they were both out of stock for a long time.
