I ordered new white Mikasa because my very large set of Italian Countryside Mikasa was getting worn. The plates had grey marks from our flatware that I could no longer scrub off.
Choosing a style was the hardest part, and I'm not sure I'm thrilled with the bowl style yet, but they're what came with the Trellis design, so I guess that's "it." I was disappointed in a few aspects of these new dishes. The plates are lovely, but it kind of bugs me that they don't sit one on top of the other perfectly in the cupboard. Also, we've only used them for a couple of weeks and already one of them has taken on a cut mark from a steak knife. We eat steak! What's that going to look like in a year's time?
I was disappointed that there weren't more options for completer pieces. No salt and pepper shakers or water pitcher? I'm pretty sure I ordered a completer set of sugar/creamer/platter/vegetable dish, but as of yet they haven't arrived.
I'm not thrilled with the embossing on the gravy boat, and I'm sad that the plate under it has no Trellis design. All this said, it's nice to have new dishes, and I like how nice and bright white they are--and how they take up a bit less space in the cupboard (are lighter weight) than the Italian Countryside dishes we had previously.
One more thing--I don't like the little blip of material in the middle of the dinner plates where they were obviously injected into a mold. It's just a tiny bit too much and makes a little raised area. In my opinion, a plate shouldn't have that. Yes, I'm a discriminating customer, but I take my tablesettings seriously!
