Bad:
I experienced extremely long customer service hold times (15+ minutes). Because of this, I contacted my local store for assistance and had an equally unpleasant interaction with a manager who was very condescending. I explained that there was a promotion for $10 off a $75 purchase listed as available on my account, but it was not applying at checkout. He stated that the promotion did not apply to me because it was for new customers only. When I asked where that restriction was disclosed—since there was no asterisk and it clearly appeared on my account—he became dismissive and claimed that I “don’t understand how advertising works.” This comment was particularly insulting, as I am an advertising consultant by profession.
Rather than listening or attempting to resolve the issue, the store representative dismissed my concerns and continued to justify his own perspective while discrediting mine. As a result of this interaction, I was prepared to stop shopping at Journeys altogether. This individual was either a manager or an employee at the Journeys store located at Tanger Outlets in Fort Worth. Unreal.
Good:
After waiting on hold, I was assisted by a customer service representative named Passion, who completely turned the experience around. She apologized for the poor experience I had at the store, honored the $10 coupon as advertised, and was both professional and kind. Because of her help, I completed my Christmas purchases for my wife and daughter, totaling $325.
Passion’s exceptional customer service is the only reason I would consider shopping at Journeys again.
