The product was a refrigerator door seal for an Amana TH18TL Freezer over Refrigerator. The old seal had gotten hard and was not sealing properly leading to the refrigerator running continuously and either freezing items or having a significant amount of moisture. To replace, APPro recommended part # WP12550109Q. I ordered it and it arrived when it was supposed to.
The installation video with Matt while helpful to demonstrate shows an easy job.. just pull out the old seal (which after a little tugging, finally came out) then you just push the new one into the same space.
The reality was not quite as easy as it looked. The seal has a little lip or bend that did not want to go into the small space that is there to secure and hold it so it does not come back out. After trying the method I saw, I realized I had to adapt to an alternate approach, so I had to get a 1/4" socket/nut driver and loosen all the small screws (20-30) holding that door plate in place to create a little more space and then push the seal into the space. I found a plastic food scraper worked great for that as it did not cut the rubber seal but allowed for significant pressure to get this into the space and adjust. Overall, this took about 2 hours (it went much faster after I loosened the screws and worked the seal from the inside (not outside) and used the plastic scraper to make sure that the little lip was going into the slot properly). While a bit frustrating compared to the video, this allowed me to get the seal replaced.
The new seal also doesn't want to magnetically attach and seal in one corner (it is fine everywhere else). This may be the result of the door flexing while putting the new seal in. If I push on the lower front of the door to flex just a little bit more, then the embedded magnet is close enough and seals the door and it stays sealed. I also realize it is the nature of working with an older refrigerator and hopefully over time the seal will properly set.
Overall, it did the job and the refrigerator is not running continuously, so it solved the problem, just not the expectation.
