I have had AAA for years but decided to try Good Sam. I signed up, but did not receive a card except an email with an image of the front of the card. It slipped my mind until I had a blow out on my vehicle, at my home. I called the # from the front of the card & easily transferred to roadside assistance. I explained that my vehicle is in my driveway. A while later I received another call from someone different They were experiencing trouble finding a service tech in my area. I said it wasn't urgent since my truck was in my driveway, but I did need to know when to expect them. I think I got a couple texts that they were still working on it. So I waited... At around 10pm I realized I had never heard from them and wasn't sure if I needed to stay up later to wait. I tried calling the original # and the message stated it was only available during business hours, & it disconnected. I tried again in case I had done something wrong, same thing happened. I tried calling the other number I had received the call from earlier & got the same message. I went to the Good Sam website to see if I could find a working number. Then I logged into my account to check there. I found other contact numbers but all of them were offline after 9pm. I noticed that my profile did not even reflect that I was a member of roadside assistance even though I had paid for the service & obviously was covered because they had accepted my request for service. I don't even remember how I finally got through to someone, maybe through the chat, & I was told I was scheduled for early the following morning. I had not been told I was scheduled by either call, email or text. If I had not gotten through, I would not have known to expect the service tech. So next morning, he showed up in a beat up old car with the engine smoking. He kept it running the entire time because he might not be able to restart it if it died. He was wearing sloppy clothes, no type of uniform or even a shirt or cap that identified him as a service tech. He had driven nearly an hour for this call. He said other techs refused to do business with GS because of low and slow payment for services. He was nice, & he got the job done, but I was left with concern about how all of this was so poorly handled. What if I had been on a roadside & experienced this? I would have had to be trying to find all of this info on my phone. I can't even imagine. I spoke with customer service the following day & was told he would submit this issue, plus he said I should as well. Plus he said he would send me a card & brochure I had not received. So I submitted my claim. A couple weeks later I had not received the card & brochure, so I called again & spoke with another rep. It took a while but I finally received the card. I want to know if this is the kind of service I should expect from GS? I am still leaning towards cancelling my membership & switching back to AAA because I cannot risk being stranded. I learned that the number I needed was on the back of the card. Also, I was told that I had to request that my roadside assistance info be added to my profile! Ridiculous! Of course it should be on there and GS should take care of that. Everything about this "service" was horrible & I would never recommend it to anyone. And nobody ever reached out to me to apologize for the problems and reassure me that GS is better than this & will make sure this never happens again.
