BEWARE DEALING WITH Spartpak aka SmartEquine (now acquired by Chewy.com)!
We purchased a pair of Easy Trail Boots (by EasyCare Inc) through SmartEquine for $307.99 and were assured that if they did not fit, after reviewing and discussing the proper fit and having provided them with measurements of our horses' feet, the boots were returnable.
The boots arrived in two different boxes and were tried on for five minutes in a clean concrete walkway in the barn, found to be too large, and cleaned immediately afterward. A small sticker inside the boot was dislodged. That was the only difference from fresh out of the box. They were made aware of this at the time a return was requested, and the charge was reversed on 12/10/25. In the meantime we had already ordered a smaller size of the boot from SmartEquine but have since returned it unopened and are awaiting a refund for that as well as we do not trust SmartEquine to even risk opening the box and being told again that they are refusing the return.
Now, 4 weeks later, the charge reappeared on our card, and we were told they are shipping the boots back and we are being recharged for them as they deemed them "unreturnable” because they were not in the original packaging (they were) and “EasyCare is very particular about accepting returns.” However, on further questioning it was determined it was their own returns department and not EasyCare refusing them back. Further this violates their own policy and return guarantee and a call to EasyCare confirmed they were never asked and in fact they would accept the boots back. However, even with EasyCare calling to inform them that the boots can be returned, SmartEquine is refusing to accept them back for return or to refund our money.
Not only does this violate their return policy it seems they are arbitrarily claiming the boots are not in return condition. I suspect at least one of the boots was used and sitting in their warehouse as it was in a different box than the other, and now they are trying to foist it off on us. Their phone person Shaune actually was laughing as she told us “I know it doesn’t seem fair but there’s nothing we can do and at most my supervisor says you can have $50 credit for the situation. You should have wrapped the horse’s foot in Saran wrap before trying them on (never mentioned at time of sale and the EasyCare rep said they would never expect one to do that). Also, yes you can dispute the charge with the credit card company but if you do you will never be allowed to order from us again.”
I have never in my 15 years of horsemanship and dealing with lots of vendors including the pre-Chewy-acquired SmartPak experienced anything so arbitrary and customer unfriendly as this. Not only is SmartEquine refusing to honor their own return guarantee but EasyCare's as well. Per EasyCare’s website… "EASYCARE GUARANTEE We back all of our products with the EasyCare Guarantee. If you are not completely satisfied with your product for any reason, EasyCare will gladly credit back the purchase price (excluding a restocking fee) within 45 days of purchase. If you have purchased an EasyCare product through one of our partners, please return the product to the place of purchase for the same Guarantee service. We do not provide a refund or credit for items purchased from an EasyCare dealer."
EasyCare has been very supportive in trying to address this issue and are themselves frustrated that SmartEquine/Chewy is trying to set them up as the bad guys in all this while showing they have no intent of honoring either their own or EasyCare’s guarantee.
BEWARE PURCHASING ANYTHING FROM SMARTEQUINE THAT YOU MIGHT NEED TO RETURN!
