Post-Delivery FeedbackSep 10, 2025
I used to purchase just about everything for my horses at SmartPak because of the variety of products, fast shipping time, and overall convenience. I began to notice about a year (or two) ago, that products were becoming out of stock quickly, the variety of products was decreasing, and shipping time was drastically increasing. I slowly began limiting my orders from SmartPak, initially I began by stopping my reoccurring supplements as there weren't any clean, non-GMO, forage based supplement options. As time progressed, I began ordering less tack and routine supplies (fly spray, grooming sprays, etc.).
My latest order was placed on 09/02/2025 at 1:19PM EST. I ordered 4 pairs of Dressage Sport Boots, and 2 pairs of SmartPak Sport Boots. I purchased these items because the estimated arrival date was Friday 09/05/2025, and I would have them in time for a clinic I was attending over the weekend. On Wednesday 09/03/2025, I tried contacting SmartPak via live chat but was unable to get the chat to work. On Thursday 09/04/2025, I again tried SmartPak live chat with no luck, and decided to call Customer Service.
The woman I worked with in Customer Service was extremely helpful as I explained that I had only ordered the boots because the estimated ship time would have them arriving at my house in time. She was very kind, understood my concern and was able to push a ticket to the warehouse to at the very least get two pairs (one full set) of the boots sent to my house in time. She even went so far as to follow up the following day, and let me know her resolve.
Overall, I probably will not be purchasing many items from SmartPak. I think that over the past several years the quality of many SmartPak branded items has decreased, the shipping times are unreliable and have increased, the variety of items decreased, and there is a major lack of high-end items.
The closing of the SmartPak store in Natick, MA also is a major reason for my lack of desire to shop with the company. In the past, if the shipping times did not work, I knew at the very least I could take a 45 minute drive to the store and pick up any last minute items that I may need. Now, I can take the same drive in the opposite direction and get to Dover for what I need.
Unfortunately, I feel the equine industry is one in which amateurs and professionals alike wear many hats. Those many hats cause consumers to need items "on the fly", or last minute. The inability for SmartPak to provide those items quickly, and/or to have limited variety or in stock items, is a problem for the community when so many other tack shops are able to provide quick turn arounds. I feel the majority of the reason why people shop at SmartPak despite the noticeable changes is only due to the simplicity of setting up reoccurring orders, or the ability to add items they need to the shipment of reoccuring orders.
