I got a gift card from work and purchased some products totaling about $250. The gift card was for $200. On the site I noticed a bit of a glitch with the gift card. It said that the $200 was applied to my total and the gift card balance was now $0 but the total still said $250. When I went to pay with my card it confirmed that I was charging the $50 remaining. I have a screenshot of this. The next day my card was charged for the entire $250.
This was clearly an error as the money had been taken from the gift card and my card had been charged.
When I called customer service they said all they could offer me was to send another gift card. Then have me do the order again with the gift card (they could not guarantee the same mistake would not happen again) they refused to refund my debit card even though it was an unauthorized charge.
Essentially payment was taken twice. And I had to open a dispute with my bank to get that money back into my account as I couldn't take the risk of being out $500
Asking me to send the items back, do another order, and wait for the refund s an unreasonable solution to a site problem Roots has. I needed to send the items to another city by a certain date I couldn't risk the same site failure happening again.
I do not understand how it was not possible to process a simple refund and instead asking your customers to go on these errands around your systems does not make any sense.
It's a terrible policy and charging people's cards without their authorization is a very sketchy practice for any business. Refusing a refund even more so.
Very disappointed in the service though I do like the quality of the products. I had a package stolen last year and had a similarly bad experience so was cautious it even purchasing again, for good reason
