I recently purchased two store demo lighting fixtures. The ordering process itself was smooth, and the pricing was competitive, which initially made this an appealing purchase.
However, my experience had several challenges that are important to highlight. The product images in the listing clearly showed remote controls, but the units arrived without them. Since the remote is a key component for operating these lights—especially for users who are not experienced with DMX—this created a significant misunderstanding and directly impacted usability. I specifically chose these fixtures because of the advertised remote functionality.
Additionally, the packaging for a cross-country shipment from New York to Idaho felt minimal for professional lighting equipment. While the items did arrive, I expected a higher level of protection given the distance and nature of the gear.
Customer service was responsive and professional in communication, which I do appreciate. However, the only resolution offered was to return the items for a refund. While that may align with policy, it was not a practical solution for me due to a time-sensitive upcoming event where I needed the equipment.
Because of this, I had to take matters into my own hands and purchase the remotes directly from the manufacturer (JMAZ) out of pocket, costing me close to $70. Given that the expectation of included remotes was set by the product images, I feel there should have been some level of accountability—whether that be covering the cost, offering a partial refund, or providing an alternative solution. Unfortunately, no such support was offered.
To their credit, the fixtures themselves are solid, and once fully equipped, they perform well. I also appreciate that customer service was polite and timely in their responses. That said, clearer and more transparent communication about what is included—especially with store demo or customer return items—is critical. Listing images that show accessories not included can easily mislead customers, even if unintentionally.
Overall, this experience could have been much better with clearer expectations upfront and a more flexible resolution approach. I would recommend I DJ NOW with the understanding that buyers should carefully verify exactly what is included with demo units before purchasing and not rely solely on product images.
