I had a 22 yr old Onkyo receiver and Polk satellite speakers that still sounds great! However, the 15 yr LG 3d tv connected to the receiver was going out. And the real problem was connectivity issues for my old audio equipment to the new tv I purchased. My old audio equipment had RCA connections, and of course the new stuff is HDMI connections.
I replaced the Onkyo 5.1 receiver with a Denon AVR S970H 7.2 receiver. I also replaced two of the Polk satellites with Polk ES10's. And I purchased the JBL Studio 660P subwoofer.
Everything was good except... finding the right pair of back surround speakers was not easy to do.
I tried:
* Kef Q1 Meta - Great speaker w/good midrange but missing detailed sounds in the upper range in certain songs.
* Klipsch RP 600Mll - Great speaker with detail sound but fatiguing to my ears.
* JBL Studio 630 - Another great speaker(and a very good looking speaker too!) with strong bass, but it was also missing music details in the higher range.
* The Bowers & Wilkins 606 S3 - This speaker hit the "Goldie Lock" spot to my ears!
The music was very detailed but not fatiguing to my ears. I also learned that I could turn the treble down on these speakers and still hear the detailed instruments my wife and I like to hear in music! Satisfying my ear was more expensive than I had planned..but I am very very satisfied with the outcome!
I also received great input from tech advisors. They helped me make my final decision and they helped me with the settings on the JBL 660p sub to get the desired sound I was looking for from it.
