Usually the Crutchfield (CF) installation process is well thought out, well documented, and easy to do. The speaker installation on my 2015 Subaru Crosstrek was not. I ordered 2 pairs of Kicker 46CSC654 speakers for the doors of my Crosstrek. The front speakers came with mounting brackets; the rear ones did not. According to Root, with whom I chatted on the CF website, there are no speakers that fit the Subaru rear doors without drilling. Given today’s 3D printing, making brackets, or at least providing a drilling template, shouldn’t be a big deal.
Once everything arrived, I discovered the brackets are asymmetrical and, while marked left and right, provide no information on orientation. No screws were provided to mount the speakers to the brackets. There were no gaskets provided or even a suggestion on what to use. I talked to Mary at tech support. Her info on orientation was wrong. In fact, to line up the brackets with the screw holes, I needed to use the right bracket on the left side and visa-versa. Mary told me to use the screws provided with the speakers to mount the speakers to the brackets. They were the wrong size. Mary suggested I use gaskets to install the speakers, but no, they weren’t provided.
The speakers work and sound good. I am happy with the result. Previous CF installations have dropped right into place with minimal fuss or drama. Maybe, Crutchfield just set the bar too damn high.
