Man, let me tell you, I’ve been neck-deep in car parts lately trying to get the 1991 Civic Shuttle dialed in. You know how it goes one minute you’re just looking for a better sound, and the next, you’re tearing into the door panels.
I recently went through Crutchfield to grab some new gear, specifically some Kicker KSS365 speakers for about $370. I actually just placed another order for some baffles and a set of KSC460s to round things out.
Here’s the real deal on the experience:
The Good
The Speed: I ordered the first set on the 1st, and they were at my door by the 3rd. For a project like this, where you just want to get it done, that quick turnaround was a huge win.
The "Know-How": This is where they usually shine. Finding stuff that actually fits a '91 Honda can be a headache, but their database makes it way less of a guessing game. They include the wiring harnesses and mounting brackets for free (or cheap), which saves a ton of "I forgot one part" trips to the store.
The Bad
The Price Tag: Crutchfield isn't the place for a "budget" build. You definitely pay a bit of a premium. I dropped over $370 on just the front stage, and while the quality is there, my wallet definitely felt the sting.
The Waiting Game: Even though the first box came fast, I’m still waiting on the baffles and the 4x6s to show up (supposedly by tomorrow). It’s that classic project limbo where you have the "cool" parts but can't finish the job because you’re waiting on the small stuff.
Would I Recommend Them?
Honestly, I would. If you're just looking for the absolute cheapest price, go to Amazon or eBay. But if you're like me juggling many things in life, classes, and trying to start a business you don't have time to deal with gear that doesn't fit or tech support that doesn't answer. Crutchfield basically charges you a "convenience tax" so you don't have to stress, and for this Honda project, it was worth it.
