I had an idea of what kind of bike I wanted to buy, but it was a little fuzzy.
I wanted something on the order of what I recalled English racers to be when I was a kid. I never owned an English racer, but understood them to be bicycles that struck a balance between speed and efficiency for street riding and comfort. I did some research and learned that it is precisely what English racers were, but that no company builds English racers anymore and that, if I wanted one, I would need to shop on Ebay or at garage sales. However, I knew that was the same sort of thing that Dutch bicycles do today. In other words, Dutch bikes have features geared toward speedy street riding, like narrow street tires and aluminum frames, but also have comfortable seats and handlebars designed for riding upright. I also wanted a quality bike, but not an excessively expensive one.
I found exactly that sort of bike at bikesdirect.com at an excellent price. So far, I have only had time to ride it a little, but it seems I have found exactly what I was looking for in a Gravity Dutch bike.
