I recently purchased the Fender American Pro Classic Silent LE in Daphne Blue. When I received the guitar it was literally unplayable. The neck needed major adjustment, the frets were not level, even the pickups were so lopsided that one side was almost touching the pickups guard while the other side was high. Also, one of the tuning pegs was extremely loose.
I called customer service and spoke with Patrick and he gave me several options, which I appreciated. One of the options was for me to work from n the guitar myself and they would compensate me for my work.
I decided I wanted to work on the guitar to actually play it to see if I wanted to keep the guitar. After crowning and leveling the frets, as well as buffing them, adjusting the neck, lubricating the rosewood fretboard, adjusting the pickups, and tightening the tuning pegs I was able to play the guitar. I honestly fell in love with it. I take a lot of pride in my ability to work on instruments. The silent system on the pickups gives me the Strat tone without the 60’s hum. It has the Stratiest Strat sound of all my Strats. This thing quacks. The Daphne blue is such a beautiful color. Unfortunately I don’t think the average person can work on their guitars like I can, so they would have had to pay hundreds of dollars to do the work I did to make this guitar playable. It makes me sad to see Fender’s QC has fallen off so bad, especially with everything going on with the lawsuits. I have around 30 instruments, primarily Fenders and Gibsons. This was the worst condition I’ve ever received a guitar.
I called back and spoke with Adam and he was awesome. He definitely made up for the experience. I am extremely happy with American Musical and their staff. Just an awesome company. After 3+ hours of work I absolutely love the guitar. The neck is great and you feel the sound resonate throughout the body. It does seem that Fenders QC is as bad as what people are saying at this point. An American made guitar should not come unplayable. That is not an exaggeration.
I have bought many items from American Musical and will continue to buy from them. I will always be a Fender and Gibsons guy, but I will be hesitant to purchase a new Fender. Fender should be thankful for American Musicals customer service, it saved them this sale.
